Welcome to the National Mental Health Consumers' Self-Help Clearinghouse, a consumer-run national technical assistance center serving the mental health consumer movement. We help connect individuals to self-help and advocacy resources, and we offer expertise to self-help groups and other peer-run services for mental health consumers.

Alternatives 2004
The 19th annual Alternatives conference, the only national mental health conference organized by and for mental health consumers and survivors, will be held from October 13 to 17, 2004, at the Denver Marriott City Center in Denver, Colorado.

Learn about our information and referral sources, find advice about networking, read our newsletter The Key and other publications. You can also learn about our technical assistance services and maybe even find a job in the mental health field.

In April 2001, the Kentucky Center for Mental Health Studies collected data on the technical assistance centers information requests received over a one-month period by the five consumer and consumer-supporter technical assistance centers funded by the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS). Self-Advocacy
The Clearinghouse has developed the Freedom Self-Advocacy Curriculum, a complete set of training materials that allow you to teach consumers in your community how to advocate for themselves.

Starting Self-Help Groups
Information about holding your group's first meeting, as well as fundraising and using the media. We're experts on starting and developing self-help groups, and many groups have benefited from our knowledge.

As a clearinghouse, it is our role to disseminate information on these issues rather than lobby for specific policies. Check this page for the latest information on advocacy, managed care, parity and specific legislation that might influence mental health services.
